Generation 1

RICHARD HELSBY was born about 1804 in Frodsham, Cheshire. He married JANE BROMLEY on the 11th July, 1825 in St Michael Church, Chester, Cheshire. Jane was born in Ince, Cheshire about 1804.

Richard worked as a labourer in 1847, but had his own 60 acre farm by 1851 in Woodhouses, where he died on the 8th February, 1854. He was buried on the 12th February, 1854 in St. Lawrence Parish Church, Frodsham. After Richard died, Jane moved to live in The Cottage, Ince, where she died and was then buried with her husband on the 13th June, 1881.

MARY HELSBY (RICHARD1) was born on the 6th September, 1829 in Helsby, Cheshire and was baptised on the 27th September, 1829, in St. James the Great C.of E. Church, Ince, Cheshire. She married JOHN ELLAMS in 1849 in St. Lawrence Parish Church, Frodsham, Cheshire.

John died in 1861 and Mary lived with her widowed mother in Ince, Cheshire

RICHARD HELSBY (RICHARD1) was born in Helsby on the 6th June, 1835 and was baptised on the 28th June, 1835 in St. Lawrence Parish Church, Frodsham. He married MARTHA CORKER, daughter of JAMES CORKER and MARY PIERCY. on the 26th March, 1855 in St. Lawrence Parish Church, Frodsham. Richard and Martha had a 12 acre farm in Snidley Moor, Frodsham, Cheshire.

Martha was baptised on the 23rd February, 1837 in St. Lawrence Parish Church, Frodsham. She died on the 20th August, 1904 and Richard died on the 21st May, 1924. They were both buried in St. Lawrence Parish Church, Frodsham, Cheshire.

MARGARET HELSBY (RICHARD1) was born on the 10th February, 1841 in Helsby, Cheshire and was baptised on the 7th March, 1841. In 1862, she married THOMAS LANGTON in St. James the Great C.of E. Ince, Cheshire. Thomas was a carter and in 1881, they lived in 34 Bishop Street, Hoole, Cheshire.

  • THOMAS LANGTON, b. 1867, Chester, Cheshire.

    • JOHN HELSBY (RICHARD1) was born on the 6th November, 1843 in Woodhouses, Frodsham and was baptised on the 24th December, 1843 in St. Lawrence Parish Church, Frodsham. He married MARY COWAP on the 1stJanuary, 1866 in The Parish Church, Coppenhall, Crewe. Mary was the daughter of JOHN and HANNAH COWAP nee MALT. George Cowap and Martha Cowap Witnessed their marriage.

    John was a railway labourer in Crewe, but when he moved to Liverpool, he worked as a forgeman and furnaceman in the nearby forge on the docks. John died at 35, Wellington Road, Liverpool and was buried on the 16th March, 1901 in Toxteth Park Cemetery, Smithdown Road, Liverpool. Mary was also buried in Toxteth Park Cemetery, Liverpool on the 29th January, 1910 .

    EDWARD HELSBY (RICHARD1) was born in Woodhouses, Frodsham, Cheshire and baptised on the 31st January, 1847 in St. Lawrence Parish Church, Frodsham. He married SUSANNAH WHITE in 1870 in St. James the Great Parish Church, Ince, Cheshire. Edward was a blacksmith and they lived in Smithy Lane, Helsby, Cheshire. Edward died in 1927.

    MARGARET ELLAMS (MARY HELSBY2, RICHARD HELSBY1) was born 1857 in Ince, Cheshire. She married JOHN JOHNSON in 1876 in St. James Parish Church, Ince, Cheshire. John and Mary lived in the Ring O Bells, Christleton, Cheshire in 1881. John was born in Christleton and was a bricklayer.

    RICHARD HELSBY (JOHN2, RICHARD1) was born on the 28th February, 1867 in Ramsbottom Street, Monks Coppenhall, Crewe, Cheshire. He married ANNIE LOUISA DODD, daughter of JOB DODD and ELIZA, on the 22nd October, 1895 in St. James Church, Toxteth Park, Liverpool. They settled in Liverpool and Richard worked as a factory furnaceman, machine toolmaker and bolt maker during his life.

    JOHN THOMAS HELSBY (JOHN2, RICHARD1) was born 1871 in Crewe, Cheshire. He married JANE JANE GUFFOG (spelt GUFFREY in 1891 Census), daughter of JAMES GUFFOG and ELIZABETH, on the 25th December, 1889 in St Matthew Church, Toxteth Park, Liverpool. Jane was known as Ginnie. John worked as a forge labourer and died in Berisford Road, Liverpool. He was buried in Smithdown Road Cemetery, Liverpool on the 17 th June, 1948.
