Generation 1

ROBERT JONES (JOSEPH2, JOHN1) was born in Hoose, Wirral and baptised on the 14th August, 1824 in St. Bridget Parish Church, West Kirby. He married MARTHA ASHTON, daughter of ENOCH and MARGARET ASHTON, on the 22th June, 1846 in St. Mary Parish Church, Eastham, Wirral.

They lived and brought up their children in Hoylake. Robert was buried on the 16th September, 1891 in Holy Trinity Parish Church, Hoylake, Wirral. Martha died a few years later and was buried with her husband on the 22nd November, 1899.

MARY JONES (ROBERT3, JOSEPH2, JOHN1) was born in Hoose and baptised on the 26th July, 1857 in Holy Trinity Parish Church, Hoylake. She married JAMES JOHNSTON, a widower between 1883 and 1891. James' first wife, MARTHA SHERLOCK, died in 1883. He was a stone mason. Mary and James settled in Birkenhead.

MARTHA JANE JONES (ROBERT3, JOSEPH2, JOHN1) was born in Hoose and baptised on the 16th July, 1861 in Holy Trinity Parish Church, Hoylake. She married WILLIAM DOYLE, a brick layer, in 1890 in St. Mary Church, Birkenhead.

    • ROBERT JONES (ROBERT3, JOSEPH2, JOHN1) was born in Hoose and baptised on the 3rd April, 1864 in Holy Trinity Parish Church, Hoylake. He married CATHERINE O'HARE, daughter of WILLIAM O'HARE, on the 19 th August, 1893 in Our Lady and St. Nicholas Parish Church, Liverpool. Catherine arrived in England from Ireland when she was about 8 years old. She went to Edinburgh with her parents, where they kept a greengrocers shop, but they were living in Liverpool at the time of Catherine's marriage to Robert.

    Robert died on the 29th December, 1914 and was buried in Holy Trinity Parish Church, Hoylake. Catherine died on the 18th December, 1953 and was buried with her husband.

    BOB JONES (ROBERT4, ROBERT3, JOSEPH2, JOHN1) was born on the 25th February, 1895 in Hoylake and was baptised on the 10th April, 1895 in Holy Trinity Parish Church, Hoylake.

    He married GWLADYS JONES about 1921 in Presbytarian Church, Alderley Road, Hoylake or Cefn Mawr Church, Wales. Bob and his brother, Harry, married two sisters. Bob was a greensman for the Royal Liverpool Golf Club, then he worked with his sons in Stan's general contracting business. Bob died in Hoylake.

    The children of BOB JONES and GWLADYS JONES are:

    CHARLES HENRY JONES (ROBERT4, ROBERT3, JOSEPH2, JOHN1) was born on the 20th September, 1896 in Hoylake, Wirral and was baptised on the 27th October, 1896 in Holy Trinity Parish Church, Hoylake and was known as Harry.

    He married CARRIE JONES on the 2nd August, 1926 in Wales. Harry died on the 4 th March, 1984 in West Kirby and his funeral service took place in The Presbyterian Church, West Kirby.

    The child of CHARLES JONES and CARRIE JONES is:

    1. ALAN JONES, b. Abt. 1930; m. MEGAN.

    MARY ELIZABETH JONES (ROBERT4, ROBERT3, JOSEPH2, JOHN1) was born on the 17 th February, 1898 in Hoylake, Wirral and was baptised on the 3rd November, 1898 in Holy Trinity Parish Church, Hoylake. She was known as Cissy. Cissy was the manageress of Hoylake dairy before she was married.

    Cissy married RICHARD IREDALE, son of ARTHUR and CECELIA IREDALE, on the 26th October, 1926 in Holy Trinity Parish Church, Hoylake. Cissy died on the 9th July, 1978 and Richard died on the 21st February, 1981. They had their funeral services at Brooke Chapel, Boston Avenue, Runcorn and were cremated at Walton Lea Crematorium, Warrington.

    CATHERINE MARGARET JONES (ROBERT4, ROBERT3, JOSEPH2, JOHN1) was born on the 16th March, 1902 in Hoylake, Wirral and was known as Maggie. She married JOSEPH ERNEST STANLEY, son of JOSEPH and HANNAH STANLEY, on the 20 th October, 1930 in Holy Trinity Parish Church, Hoylake. They lived in Hoylake for a short time before moving into Chapel Cottage, Barnston Lane, Moreton. Later in life, they moved to Stavordale Road, Moreton.

    DOROTHY MAY JONES (ROBERT4, ROBERT3, JOSEPH2, JOHN1) was born on the 21 stOctober, 1915. She married ROWLAND DAVIES abt. 1941 in Northumberland, whilst he was serving in the R.A.F. Rolie lived in Birkenhead. Dorothy and Rolie lived in Willaston, Cheshire, for a time until they went to Swanage and then finally settled in Wareham, Dorset. Rolie died about 1999 in Wareham.

    The children of DOROTHY JONES and ROWLAND DAVIES are:
